This is a really interesting game enjoy it a lot.
Great idea that you can switch sides to take more or less risk.
It remains interesting as the cards that pop up allow for good combinations.
It would be nice if the music changed a bit with the levels.
When you pass a round, there should be some healing. But then maybe the game is too easy.
It would be nice if you could jump to the menu at any time and then quit if you want.
I love it! It's really fun to play.
I played the web version first and then the download version.
To be able to see the decks is a great addition.
The music adds a lot to the game, but get's a bit repetitive after some time. The new effects are nice to watch.
Things I would improve:
- The text wrapping line while revealing makes it hard to read. I don't know gamemaker, but for godot you would set the clipping behavior to after shaping, maybe there is something similar
- Automatically end the round if you have no mana left
- Heal the character you played, at least a bit. I guess swapping characters is the main thing, but it feels like swapping everytime to heal is almost always the best strategy, also to have less cards seems to be better. Maybe be able to swap one out instead of adding a new everytime
- Beating satan felt a bit less rewarding than winning as satan, while it was harder to beat him, at least it felt like that for me
This is an awesome response to "roles reversed"! A really fun and thoughtful deckbuilder. I really like that you can start your deck over any time, and that you can choose bad cards intentionally if your abandoning a character. It feels very satisfying when you are able to switch to a more powerful enemy. I'm sure it's very tricky to balance, but right now it feels like abandoning characters as often as possible is always the best strategy to keep playing. It's fun, but I keep wanting to eventually build a deck that can actually keep going on its own, because that's what you usually do in a deckbuilder. It would be nice if I had some sense of my ultimate goal. Really cool game!
Update: Kept playing and reached a "you become the bad guy" ending. Very cool, thoughtful, interesting. It made me feel like I was always choosing the easy way out, and that lead me down a dark path. I think it would have more impact, if sticking with a character felt more viable.
I'm really bad at it but this is a very fun game!
